Before and after the final firing

One of the magical moments in pottery is opening the kiln after a glaze firing
It is a lengthy process that demands patience; a glaze firing takes 8 - 10 hours depending on the ambient temperature. The kiln is then allowed to slowly cool, this takes most of a day; too fast and the glaze or the pots will fracture.
When the kiln is finally opened I'm like a child on Christmas morning!
